What is Young Enterprise?

The Young Enterprise (YE) Program was introduced to Malaysian secondary schools in 1989 by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce to give us an opportunity to learn about business through hands-on experience.

The YE Program, also known as Program Pengusaha Muda Malaysia is similar to the U.K. program, which is more than 50 years old, and to junior achievement in the United States. Malaysia is the first country in this region to adopt this program as an extra-curricular activity for secondary school students.

Only 25 participants called “Achievers,” are selected from each school to form a mini company over the period of nine months, you will learn how to run a company with the assistance of from the advisors from your sponsor company.

This program is design to let us learn how to run a business, and to learn proper business procedures. We will also be given the privilege of operating a real corporate bank account.

YE will also lead us through the complete life-cycle of a company, from capitalization to voluntary liquidation.

Young Enterprise student companies often make profits. However, the success of the program is is not judge solely by financial result, but rather in developing teamwork and business skills as a foundation for future achievements. This program which encourages entrepreneurship is recognized by the Ministry of Education.
